Sigma Phi Epsilon
The Missouri Mu Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Truman State University was founded in 1981. SigEp’s mission is to Build Balanced Men and to be the Biggest and Best on campus. Based on the values of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love, SigEp offers an authentic fraternity experience that guides young men through their college journey. Whether it’s through professional development, mental health, social benefits, intramurals, academic support, alumni relations, or the bond of brotherly love, SigEp offers something for everyone.
Built behind Ryle Hall, our chapter house, built in 2018, houses 20 active members and serves as the chapter’s base of operations. Funded entirely by alumni, the house serves as the largest fraternity house on Truman’s campus. The $1.5 million house remains one of the best pieces of real estate in Kirksville.
Our chapter currently has 75 diverse members who excel in every part of their college lives. SigEp’s are involved in a plethora of organizations, including but not limited to: Student Government, CCE, Homecoming and Greek Week committee, Marching Band, Orchestra, Cantoria Choir, Residence Life, Delta Sigma Pi, VITA, Bulldog Student Investment Fund, Blue Key, Interfraternity Council, Ultimate Frisbee, Club Soccer, Roller Hockey, Society of Actuaries. We also boast a large number of varsity athletes from the Men’s Soccer, Swim, Track, and Football teams, which make up 27% of our chapter. Despite all these additional commitments, SigEp’s are superb in their academics. Last semester, the overall chapter GPA was 3.44. On top of that, Truman has recognized our continuing academic success and investment in the success of our members, as we have received the Academic Excellence award for the previous two years. On top of that, SigEp has also won many other awards through the university in the past two years, such as Chapter of the Year, Outstanding Community Relations, Brotherhood Of The Year, Rising Activist, Outstanding Organization Leader, and Outstanding Chapter President.
SigEp also has a strong commitment to helping members within the Kirksville community through diverse philanthropic projects. Members can pursue their philanthropic passions aided by SigEp and its resources, leading to continued partnerships with The Salvation Army, The Humane Society, HyVee, Northeast Medical Center, MODOT, and many more. Our most proud endeavor is Golden Heart, which supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In honor of our late brother, SigEp decided that more attention was needed in supporting men’s mental health and the mental health of people as a whole. SigEp makes this a priority every year, creating the most expansive fraternity philanthropy event on campus, which in four years has raised nearly $60,000. Garnering both campus and media attention.
Missouri Mu is not only a successful chapter at Truman State, but also excels nationally. In February 2025, our chapter’s executive board went to Chicago for the Carlson Leadership Academy, where we won the Talent Power award for excellent risk management, recruitment, and overall impact on the campus community. In July, four members of the chapter, as well as two alumni, travelled to Tampa Bay for the Grand Chapter Conclave. Competing against SigEp chapters across the nation, Missouri Mu won our chapter’s first Buchanan Cup in over 20 years. This is awarded to the top 25 out of all 192 national Sig Ep chapters, with all aspects of chapter operations taken into consideration. SigEp’s trajectory over recent years has only gone up, and the Missouri Mu chapter at Truman State has no plans of that changing.
Our fraternity rounds out the Truman State experience by fostering personal development and the bonds of brotherhood. Our guiding principles: Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love.

Chapter President: Jackson Budzinski
Jackson Budzinski is a Mathematics and Statistics major with a minor in Actuarial Science. Jackson is a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
When asked about his journey into the IFC community, Jackson said, “When I first arrived at Truman State, I was worried about finding a group where I truly belonged and what opportunities existed to meet people I could connect with. I turned to Truman’s IFC community as a possibility for that belonging, and what I found was a group of like-minded individuals who push me to be my best in all aspects of life—whether academic, social, or professional. Being a part of Truman’s IFC is an experience like no other; I am proud to be a member and attribute much of my development throughout my college career to this community.”
